Tayside Police - Wildlife Crime
Short Story

Participants in this part of the project had to write a short story entitled "A Day in the Life of a Police Wildlife Crime Officer". Through the story the pupils had to imagine they were police wildlife crime officers investigating a wildlife crime.

Alan Stewart, Tayside Police wildlife and environmental crime officer, who marked the stories, said
"Generally the standard was very high, and the winning stories are quite exceptional. The pupils have grasped the wide variety of crimes against wildlife investigated by the police and I noticed in some of the stories that the real-life frustration is demonstrated when the criminal evades capture.

"Deciding on winners was tough, as the children have put a lot of work and a lot of thought into the stories. I decided to increase the number of winners in Perth and Kinross and in Angus because of the sheer numbers of classes taking part and the corresponding high numbers of stories justifying prizes."
