Pupils taking part in the Wildlife Crime Project have submitted an autumn nature diary, kept over a 5-day period, which is the first
of four projects that they'll undertake.
Alan Stewart, Tayside Police Wildlife and Environment Officer, who marked most of the diaries, said, "The standard seems to improve every year. Many of the diaries contained a huge amount of information that the pupils had gathered from their excursions either to the countryside or to urban parks and green spaces and I'm pleased that young people are so observant. From the results you'll see that Eastern Primary in Dundee has swept the boards and I really must congratulate these two classes on their extremely detailed and neat work. I'm confident that the next generation of adults will be much more enlightened about our environment and I hope this project goes some way to help."Sue Warbrick from Scottish Natural Heritage added "SNH is very pleased to support this project as young people are very important in the fight against wildlife crime. Our congratulations go to all the winners and we look forward to welcoming them to the prize giving at our Battleby conference centre outside Perth."The winners are : ANGUS SCHOOLS 1st - Alex Guthrie, P4/5, Northmuir (43 points) 2nd - Jordan Cooper, P5/6, Strathmore (36.5 points) 3rd - Katy Hogarth, P6, Letham (33.5 points) 4th - Katie Ramsay, P5A, Seaview (29 points) Special prize for the most unusual diary, Ellie McCallum, P6/7, Strathmore DUNDEE SCHOOLS 1st - Ethan Dalziel, P5B, Eastern (48 points) 2nd - Aidan Raffle, P5B, Eastern (38 points) 3rd - Fraser Steedman, P5A, Eastern (26 points) 4th= - Kirstin Brown, P5A, Eastern (24 points) 4th= - Joseph Sweeney, P5A, Eastern (24 points) PERTH AND KINROSS SCHOOLS 1st - Seamas Blanch, P4/5, Methven (26 points) 2nd - Bethany Fletcher, P6J, Oakbank (23 points) 3rd - Kirsty Barron, P4/5, Meigle (22.5 points) 4th= - Catriona Beattie, P7, Moncreiffe (20.5 points) 4th= - Ryan Duncan, P5, Alyth (20.5 points) |
