Officers are based at Crieff and Auchterarder and have responsibility for policing the communities of Aberuthven, Auchterarder, Blackford, Braco, Comrie, Crieff, Dunning, Fowlis Wester, Gilmerton, Greenloaning, Madderty, Muthill and St. Fillans.
Crieff Police Station, King Street (Click for map) The area has two main trunk roads, the A85 and the A9 which cross the boundary with Central Scotland Police. Local operational officers from both forces have developed good working relationships and share information at local level, as well as through the Scottish Intelligence Database. Road policing is also a key activity with targeted patrols to deal with speeding motorists and motorcyclists. The area is a popular tourist destination and the summer months in particular herald an influx of visitors wishing to experience the natural splendour, hospitality and facilities in the area. Activities range from hill walking to water based activities in and around Loch Earn. A unique experience in policing terms was witnessed as officers from across the United Kingdom worked as one at the G8 Summit of world leaders held at Gleneagles in 2005.
Auchterarder Police Station, High Street (Click for map) In addition to the officers that deal with the diverse range of core policing tasks including wildlife crime, there are three Community Crime Officers :
Constable John Feguson has responsibility for Crieff town and Crieff Landward beat. In this role, Constable Ferguson attends Community Council meetings, team meetings at both Crieff High School and Crieff Primary School, and interacts with outside agencies such as Social Work and Perth and Kinross Housing departments. It is essential that Community Crime Officers are known to their local communities and as such Constable Ferguson carries out foot patrols in town and village areas. Constable Ian Thomson returned to work in Auchterarder in March 2007, having previously worked there some years ago. In his role as the Community Crime Officer, his designated area covers Aberuthven, Auchterarder, Blackford, Braco, Dunning, Greenloaning and the surrounding area. Ian liaises with local community groups, businesses, licensed premises and schools. Constable Thomson regularly attends local Community Council meetings and is involved with many partner agencies. Should any local group or society request a presentation or advice and information on police matters, he is available. Constable Sarah Jane Bell is the Community Crime Officer covering Comrie and St. Fillans. In this role, Sarah liaises with the local shop keepers, hotel and bar owners and their licensees and Neighbourhood Watch coordinators. She is available to carry out talks with local groups regarding police matters and interacts with partner agencies such as Perth and Kinross Community Mediation Service. The Community Crime Officers have access to pedal cycles and will utilise these to further increase their visibility in the Crieff area communities. |
