A high priority within the City of Perth is to ensure that the Police are aware of the needs and concerns of the communities they serve. To achieve this there are now 20 Community Crime Officers who have been given the responsibility for policing a particular area of the city. These areas are the City Centre, Muirton & North Muirton, Letham, Fairfield & Tulloch, Craigie and Oakbank. These officers liaise with members of Neighbourhood Watch Schemes, Community Safety Panels, Community Wardens and other community groups in order to promote public safety and maximise understanding and co-operation in dealing with community problems. The officers deploy on foot, pedal cycles and motor scooters. This form of patrolling increases mobility & visibility and encourages an open contact with the public which has proved popular and effective.

Shift working times have been amended to ensure that there is twice the amount of officers on duty during "peak times" and this has been in response to public concern surrounding anti-social conduct within the community.

There are also a number of focused police patrols deployed with specific action plans to tackle community issues and safety.

In addition to policing in excess of twenty five football matches at McDiarmid Park, Perth each year, officers attached to the Perth Section are also responsible for policing the annual Agricultural Show on the South Inch which attracts upwards of 36,000 persons over a two day period. Another popular event which is held in the city is the two day Perth Motor Festival which can draw crowds in the region of 25,000. Officers in this section are also responsible for policing the many political conferences that are held at Perth Concert Hall.
