The Community Safety Unit has a number of functions : Community Planning and Partnership Working Tayside Police is committed to working in partnership with others sharing expertise and information to ensure that our communities are safe and feel safe. The Community Safety Unit is involved in the Perth and Kinross Community Planning Partnership through their various committees and groups. They are particular active in the Community Safety Partnership regarding Antisocial Behaviour, Youth Justice and Road Safety. School Liaison Officers - Constables Pauline Harvey and Stuart Turner The role of School Liaison officer is to ensure that there is a professional and consistent approach to schools presentations by the police which is accurate and informative and given by experienced officers who have the ability to connect with young people. The officers are trained in the subjects that they present and in presentation and teaching methods. The School Liaison officers deliver a range of age specific presentations on the following topics to local authority, independent and special needs schools throughout Perth and Kinross :
The School Liaison officers also take the lead role in organising SAFETAYSIDERS. This is an annual multi-agency event held over two weeks each May at Perth Racecourse. One thousand Primary 7 school pupils are led through a series of safety scenarios and sets and given training to prepare them for emergency situations they may find themselves faced with at some point in their lives. This year's event featured sets from Police, Trading Standards, Scottish Ambulance Service, Road Safety, Scotland Gas Networks, RNLI, Tayside Fire & Rescue and the Web Project. School Liaison officers also take part in Safe Drive Stay Alive and Driving Ambition. Divisional Architectural Liaison and Crime Prevention Officer - Donald Campbell Donald is responsible for promoting crime preventative measures in relation to the building and construction industry through the "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design" (CPTED) principles. This involves providing security advice to building users, planners, architects and the building industry to design against crime in new and existing developments, and the promotion of Secured by Design (SBD) and Park Mark, the safe car parking scheme, where appropriate. Donald is also the divisional Crime Prevention Officers and is involved in the development of preventative strategies to reduce existing and prevent further crime within Perth & Kinross. These include :
Road Safety Officer - Rachel Ewins Rachel co-ordinates all road safety activity in the Division and develops and maintains strong links with partner agencies. Road Safety is firmly embedded in the Community Planning process and Rachel's work involves participation on a number of levels from School Travel Planning to child car seat clinics. Inevitably much of Rachel's time is devoted to dealing with the more vulnerable members of the Perth and Kinross community, in particular the young and the elderly. A large proportion of the role involves working with school children delivering cycle training and pedestrian training, providing presentations at transition days and co-ordinating national schemes such as Junior Road Safety Officers. Rachel enjoys close liaison with the local health authority and regularly contributes advice to ante-natal clinics and parent and toddler groups. Wheelchair tests and Independent Adult Assessments are other vital functions. On top of these commitments, the Road Safety Officer provides in excess of 100 presentations per year to a range of groups on a variety of road safety topics. Community Engagement Administrator - Gail Cain Effective community engagement is central to delivering a customer-focused service to the public. Gail assists officers in the division to engage effectively with their communities and ensures that feedback from community meetings is forwarded to appropriate managers for action, Gail also has a central role in developing the division's relationship with its 180 Neighbourhood Watch Schemes. |
