Section 5 serves a population of approximately 40,000 in the northern and eastern areas of the city, including Whitfield, Mid Craigie, Linlathen, Douglas, Craigiebank and Broughty Ferry. The Section Inspector has responsibility for the area and he is assisted by 6 Sergeants and about 60 Officers. Officers are based at both Longhaugh and Broughty Ferry Police Offices but due to operational needs, neither is staffed on a 24-hour basis. There is a telephone facility at both offices to contact the Force Control Room for assistance.

Although not dealing with high volume crime, officers deal with a wide variety of police matters. Not surprisingly, problems caused by young people consume the majority of police time.
