Inspector Gordon Taylor is the head of the Road Policing Unit for Dundee.

The Unit comprises 3 Sergeants, 18 Constables and 1 member of support staff and is based at the Force's Baluniefield facility in Balunie Drive, Dundee.

The Unit's main objective is to assist in the overall effort to reduce road casualties and increase safety on the road network within Dundee.

To achieve this aim they conduct high profile enforcement patrols throughout the city. The main type of offences dealt with are: RPU vehicle
  • Speeding, inconsiderate and dangerous driving
  • Drink / Drug Driving
  • Seat Belt Offences
  • Documentation Offences eg. disqualified driviers, no licence, no insurance, etc.
  • Use of hand-held mobile phones whilst driving
The unit appreciates that they cannot achieve their objective by working in isolation and so work closely with their partners Dundee City Council, BEAR Scotland, VOSA, DVLA, HM Revenue and Customs.

Over and above this primary role the Unit provides specialist support to the Division and conduct focussed patrols to detect and deter criminal activity in an effort to make the communities of Dundee safer for everyone.
