The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is headed by Detective Chief Inspector William Semple.

Based within the Force's headquarters building in West Bell Street, the department supplies a support role to the uniformed officers within Dundee.

The main function of the department is to investigate major, serious and volume crime including murder, fraud, housebreaking and vehicle crime.

Specialists working within the department include sex offenders management and family protection enquiries. Also included under CID is Crime Management which, through the application of the National Intelligence Model, ensures that crime investigations and crime disruption are intelligence led.

Major crime enquiries are co-ordinated by the HOLMES team. Using computer-based investigation techniques they ensure a thorough investigation is carried out.
