These officers carry out their duties openly but in plain clothes. The unit compliments the work of officers currently engaged in community liaison work throughout Tayside. Why was the unit formed? The unit was formed in the wake of the terrorist bombings in London in July 2005 where 52 people died and many others were injured. The SBCCU was established in order to create channels of communication with our minority communities and to improve the flow of community intelligence between the police and communities in an effort to prevent a repeat of these atrocities.
