DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Specials, as they are known, take part in every aspect of police work learning new skills and meeting new challenges on a voluntary basis. Full training and uniform are provided free of charge and travelling expenses are paid.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The following process is applied to Special Constable recruitment.

As with regular constables, applicants must fully complete the national application form and accompanying documentation. Convictions will be treated in the same way as with regulars and assessed on an individual basis. Minor offences may not exclude an application from proceeding, however it is extremely unlikely that a person with a serious conviction will be allowed to progress.

INTERVIEW

Applicants will attend a structured interview which will assess them against the competencies listed below.

MEDICAL

Any applicant successful at the interview stage must complete a medical prior to starting. Any queries regarding medical issues must be referred to the recruiting team who can pass it on to CIGNA if required.

BACKGROUND CHECKS / REFERENCES

Background checks will be carried out and references requested once the applicant has completed the interview stage.
