Tayside Police
Equality and Diversity - Sexual Orientation

Tayside Police is dedicated to ensuring equality, both as an employer and as a service provider. Recognising the difficulties and barriers that people face as a result of their sexual orientation allows us to address these issues effectively.

As an employer we actively promote a supportive working environment for our staff and in February 2005 appointed a member of the Gay Police Association to co-ordinate and raise staff awareness of the various support mechanisms available to Tayside Police employees. We also have a specially trained team of harassment officers who can be contacted anonymously for support and advice.

Further to this a strong commitment to ensuring all staff are trained in equality and diversity issues helps us to remove prejudice both internally within the workplace, and externally as a service provider.

We recognise that homophobic hate crime is an issue that has a significant impact on people's lives, and at this time we are working with both local and national partners to develop effective methods that support and enable the reporting of homophobic hate crime in a safe and convenient manner.

As a partner of the Tayside LGBT Forum we regularly contribute to (and are part of) discussions and actions to tackle the different inequalities that exist for members of the LGBT community within Tayside and at a national level Tayside Police is also a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) LGBT Reference Group.
